About

I have had a crazy interest since I was a little kid in those stinking little blood sucking varmints we call ticks. Yes I even liked to try and find them sitting on a blade of grass as they waited for their next victim. I remember using a magnifying glass to smoke them on the sidewalk and later teaching my grandkids to do the same. I also remember never being to concerned about them because they were kind of like a mosquitos as a pest, just a little more sneaky and only wanted some of my blood. We never talked about Lyme disease when I was young or even that a tick bite could cause any problems. It wasn’t until maybe 25 years ago that I even heard of Lyme disease, but I still didn’t worry about it much.

Now all through this time my wife just hated them with a passion and was scared to death of them too. So around 2010 or so I started to think what could I do to stop from bringing them in the house, or what to do with my clothes when I come in the house? Anyway that is when the research really began. I would do experiments in the basement on my own and sometimes with grandkids, all just to learn more about them. When a friend of mine had a really bad time with Lyme disease and almost died I began to learn even more. Finding out about “permethrin” tick and insect repellant was probably my biggest discovery in all my research. A year later my website was born because I saw so many great websites for Lyme disease but very little about prevention, so then prevention became my new goal.

Since then I have been on numerous podcasts, radio shows, a few outdoor tv shows, and have spoken across the country at safety conferences. Being called The Tick Terminator and having a logo of a tick in the shape of a hand grenade is so much fun. The title and the logo always brings a smile to someones face, you see, you are even smiling right now 🙂  I try to bring good solid info about these pesky little blood suckers in a fun way and occasionally even laugh and learn about a serious subject. I feel a little humor can help people remember what they learned and be safer out there in tick habitat, know how to protect themselves, and know what to do if bitten.

I live in Iron Mountain, MI area which is located in Upper Michigan right on the northern Wisconsin border. We have two adult kids, and four grandkids. I have been married to my highschool sweet heart and the love of my life for almost 44 years. We enjoy walks in the wood, on the beach, exploring water falls, snow shoeing, spending time with family, riding bikes, (I like deer hunting), hanging out with friends, but the highlight of our week is spent Sunday mornings at church praising our incredible Lord and Saviour Jesur Christ.
